Helping Hands Community Project Honoured at Buckingham Palace Royal Garden Party 2026

A Leamington Spa community group that supports people facing homelessness, poverty and hardship has been recognised at the annual Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

Beyond providing hot meals, Helping Hands Community Project offers community and connection, mental health support, a weekly nursing service, employability workshops, and opportunities through social enterprise initiatives.

Working across the local community, Helping Hands is committed to building trusted relationships and supporting individuals on their journey toward a more stable and positive future.

Jo Merrick, Client Service Manager and Kevin Thornton, Support Worker, attended the Garden Party with their partners, alongside charities and community organisations from across the UK, celebrating the contribution of voluntary and community work.

Jo Merrick, Client Service Manager at Helping Hands, said:

“We are incredibly honoured to receive an invitation to the Royal Garden Party. This recognition reflects the dedication of our staff, volunteers and supporters who work tirelessly every day to support people in our community. It’s a proud moment for everyone at Helping Hands.”

A service user added:

“Helping Hands have been an incredible support to me, they’ve truly changed my life. What began as the occasional hot meal grew into counselling, a women’s group, and a safe place where I felt welcomed and supported. Without them, I honestly wouldn’t be where I am today”
