Held at our Althorpe Street centre every Tuesday from 12:30pm to 2:30pm, the Daniel’s Rise men’s support group offers more than just a hot meal – it provides a safe, welcoming space where men can talk, share, and rest without pressure or judgement.
Led by a qualified men’s support worker and supported by dedicated volunteers, the group tackles the root causes and effects of homelessness, including mental health challenges, addiction, and isolation. Each session includes a warm, nourishing meal – a simple but powerful act of care – and costs the charity money per head to deliver. Alongside shared meals, we offer a year-round schedule of activities, including creative workshops, practical skills training, and wellbeing sessions.
Men from all walks of life are welcomed with open arms, finding refuge, friendship, and opportunities to discover new hobbies or strengths. The group itself chose the name Daniel’s Rise, inspired by the biblical story of Daniel in the lion’s den – a symbol of strength, resilience, and hope. These are the very qualities we see and celebrate in the men who attend. Above all, this project is about connection and belonging. Every man who walks through our doors becomes part of our community, and together, we share in the pride and joy of every step forward made on the journey to recovery and renewed purpose.

Helping Hands has brought structure and friendship into my life. It’s given me a hand up out of a deep dark hole full of loneliness and addiction. My life looks brighter now and I’m looking forward to a happy life thanks to the volunteers and staff at Helping Hands for their kindness, support and for not judging me on my past.
The Daniel’s Rise group continues to grow and now provides opportunities for the men to do a range of activities outside of this group, helping them to learn new skills, get active and socialise. These include:
