Counselling

Empowering Lives, Restoring Hope, Rebuilding Futures.

At Helping Hands, we know that life isn’t always straightforward – especially for those facing homelessness, addiction recovery, or financial struggles.

That’s why we offer a free counselling service for our service users, giving people the chance to talk things through in a safe, supportive space.

Our counselling sessions are shaped around the individual’s needs – whether they’re dealing with the emotional impact of homelessness, working through past trauma, managing mental health challenges, or navigating the journey of recovery. We’re here to walk alongside them, both in the moment and over the long term.

For those in addiction recovery, counselling can be an important part of the bigger picture – helping to understand the emotional roots of substance use and supporting people in building healthier coping strategies. Our aim is to help individuals feel heard, respected, and empowered as they move forward.

We mainly use a person-centred approach to therapy – where the individual leads the conversation – sometimes blending this with tools from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or gentle life coaching techniques. This mix helps break unhelpful patterns, build confidence, and develop practical skills that can support day-to-day life.

Working together with our other services and local partners, counselling at Helping Hands is one piece of a bigger puzzle – helping people rebuild their lives, reconnect with their community, and move towards a brighter future.
