Daniel's Rise – Supporting men
Held at our Althorpe Street centre between 12.30pm and 2.30pm every Tuesday, the Daniel's Rise men’s support group offers a safe space in which men can talk, share and rest in an atmosphere of total trust and no pressure.
Led by a qualified men’s support worker, supported by volunteers, the group offers support around the cause and effects of homelessness, including mental health, addiction and isolation.
Men from all backgrounds and circumstances can find refuge and an opportunity to chat, make friends and acquire a new hobby or skill.
Those who attend the men’s support group decided on the name of ‘Daniel’s Rise’ as the story of Daniel and the lion’s den is one of the most iconic and inspiring stories in the Bible. The men also chose the words ‘strength’, ‘resilience’ and ‘hope’ to highlight the qualities of both Daniel and the men that attend the group.
This project is about connection and cultivating a sense of belonging. All the men that join us are welcomed into our community and become a valued part of it. That sense of community brings collective strength and purpose, and we all share in the joy when an individual turns their life around.
- Meetings often welcome a guest speaker or involve a trip out somewhere. Sometimes the emphasis is on education, sometimes it’s just about fun…either way, Daniel's Rise support group is never dull!
- “A hand up, not a hand out,” is the ethos that underpins Helping Hands and that is absolutely the case with Daniel's Rise. Every man that comes to us has skills and attributes – we love to rekindle and nurture those skills and attributes. We provide opportunities for training and to get involved in activities and learn new skills and volunteer work.
- Above all, Daniel's Rise is a place to feel welcome and included.
